The client warned us that perfection was the goal and it might be a bumpy ride if we wanted to come along. A client this passionate and engaged is a great opportunity to create an incredible project. The site itself is incomparable; a cliff sided peninsula that juts into the Pacific Ocean. Views of the coast are literally all around you.
The aging existing home is being removed to create space for the re-sited new home and guest cottage. An existing service cottage is renovated for the couples use while construction proceeds. The completed property will have 8 bedrooms and ample space for a couple that exudes hospitality.
The existing steep entry drive is regraded for a more gentle approach to the home. The entry is a double height space that looks through the house, over the dining area, to the ocean beyond. The expansive view beyond is framed by a dramatic stair and interior bridge that connects the couple’s private spaces upstairs.
The charge was to create an upstairs master suite where the couple could retreat for privacy and calm, even while hosting large groups. The suite contains his and her offices (that double as workout room and lounge), a large walk in closet, a master bath with plunge pool, and a gracious master bedroom with a large terrace.
The main living area is glass all around to take in the stunning views. Terraces lead to the lap pool, hot tub, grill area, dining terraces, gardens and guest cottage. Two look-out points make you feel like you are perched at the edge of the earth.
